Just a short liveaboard journey from Sorong, the Fam Islands boast some of the most pristine and diverse dive sites in Indonesia.
One of the highlights of diving in the Fam Islands is Melissa’s Garden. This spectacular site features a shallow plateau adorned with an incredible variety of hard and soft corals, large sea fans, and bustling schools of fish. Expect to see everything from tiny nudibranchs and soft coral crabs to larger pelagics like barracudas and trevallies. The underwater topography is equally impressive, with dramatic slopes and ridges providing the perfect backdrop for underwater photography.
Beyond diving, the Fam Islands offer stunning white-sand beaches, perfect for relaxation and sunbathing. Snorkelers will also find plenty to explore in the shallow reefs teeming with marine life. Getting there: The best way to explore the Fam Islands is by liveaboard, offering seamless access to the most pristine dive sites. Alternatively, you can take a speedboat from Sorong, which takes approximately 90 minutes.
Best time to visit the Fam Islands: The best time for diving in the Fam Islands is from October to April, when water temperatures range from 27°C to 30°C (81°F to 86°F). However, diving here is excellent year-round, with consistently good conditions.
Diving Conditions: Expect water depths ranging from 5 to 30 meters (16 to 98 feet) with mild to moderate currents, suitable for divers of all experience levels. Visibility is typically excellent, ranging from 20 to 30 meters (66 to 98 feet).
