Dive sites around Siko boast stunning coral walls, fields of sea fans, and encounters with large pelagics such as reef sharks and barracudas. The surrounding waters are teeming with macro life, including nudibranchs, frogfish, and pygmy seahorses, making it a photographer’s dream. For non-divers, the island’s remote beaches and vibrant birdlife offer equally captivating adventures.
The region's remoteness ensures a sense of exclusivity, making it a must-visit for divers wanting to experience Indonesia’s marine biodiversity away from the more crowded areas. A liveaboard trip is the ideal way to fully immerse yourself in all that Siko and South Halmahera have to offer.
Getting there: The best way to explore Siko Island is by liveaboard. These trips often depart from Ternate or Sorong, offering seamless access to the remote sites of South Halmahera.
Best time to visit Siko Island: The optimal diving season is from October to April when water temperatures range from 27°C to 30°C (81°F to 86°F). These months offer the best conditions for underwater visibility, making for spectacular dives.
Diving Conditions: Siko Island offers dives ranging from shallow coral gardens to deeper walls, with depths between 5 and 40 meters (16 to 131 feet). Currents are generally mild, making the area suitable for divers of all levels.
